Colorado's Arapahoe Basin is retiring its Exhibition fixed-grip triple chair, which debuted in 1978 in the resort's base area. Replacing the lift is a $4 million high-speed quad named Black Mountain Express. "With its increased capacity, shorter ride time and ease of loading the new detachable chairlift will be a tremendous benefit for our guests," said Alan Henceroth, Arapahoe Basin's chief operating officer and general manager.
Black Mountain is the rugged and jagged mountain that dominates the skyline immediately east of ski area. Just south of Black Mountain is Lenawee Mountain whose western flank is the East Wall. The final decision on the name was extremely challenging according to Henceroth. We chose a name that reflects the terrain, will be timeless, and is part of the Arapahoe spirit.
