Henry James once defined life as that predicament which precedes death, and certainly nobody owes you a debt of honor or gratitude for getting him into that predicament.  But a child does owe his father a debt, if Dad, having gotten him into this peck of trouble, takes off his coat and buckles down to the job of showing his son how best to crash through it. ~Clarence Budington Kelland

Why Doesn't He Talk Back? PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 08 February 2010 20:48

I was told tonight by my son while I was lying in bed with him that he was talking to God, but he was not praying.

Then I got asked "Why Doesn't He Talk Back?"  If I only knew and had a good answer for this question; I just told Dakota that God has a lot of people talking to him and he can't answer everybody at the same time so you may not get an answer right away but it will come to you in time.  I am not Catholic but mom is and I can't always defer to her for an answer because she is not always here.  So, and I hate to say it, I wing my answers sometimes.

I asked him what they were talking about and he said "I don't want to tell you"  I told him I respected that and would not ask again.  He said he was not talking bad about me or mom so that leaves me to wonder if he was asking for a brother or sister, I guess I will find out if he ever wants me to know.

Dakota is in the middle of Catechism classes at church and has more and more questions about religion that are getting tougher that I just cannot answer.  I often tell him to ask his church teacher, if he does or not, I don't know.

How would you answer this question?

God Speaks

Tell him that God speaks in many ways: through the Bible, through others, through situations, and sometimes with a quiet voice that whispers to his soul.

That is a tough question to answer and I am not sure what I would say. I like what you had to say about it coming to him in time.

I am in the same situation; not much into religion and wife a catholic. In these situations I muddle through the answer which usually works because they're not old enough to understand more than I know so far. When that stops working, mom is going to have to step up.

I totally thought this was going to be some creepy blog about dad trying to get into the Mile High club. Glad I was wrong!
