Our conversation walking home after the park, playground and school today.Him: Dad, can I go to Brett's house for a playdate? We decided to have a playdate after school. Me: No, you have to go to Catechism in 30 minutes, besides Brett's Dad made him go right home without going to the park so maybe they had something to go do like we did last night. Him: But Dad, we made a playdate. Me: Yes you did but you guys forgot to facto rin Brett's Dad and your Dad; just like last night when you guys had a playdate arranged and we had to go to Grandma's birthday party instead. As we approach our house and Brian come into view. Him: Dad, can I play with Brian? Me: You can play for 28 minutes but remember you have Catechism tonight. Him: I don't want to go to church school tonight, it's boring. Me: You can play for 26 minutes after you take your backpack in, but remember you have to go to Catechism. Him: Really? I can play with Brian? Me: Yes, for 25 minutes. Him: OK, is CJ going to be there? See ya, I'll be playing with Brian, 25 minutes right? It dawned on me just then that he just wanted conflict for the sake of argument.
