Or the kid who needed little sleep! Aarghhh! He has to be tired, it wears me out just trying to keep up! Our typical day: 6:30 I get up and shower, do my Omega 3 and vitamin gig then a cup o Joe, check email and Facebook, but necessarily in that order. 7:00 -7:15 I hear a "Dad, will you pick my clothes out?" I head up and try to get him to make a choice is shirts and shorts, but no, so I head down to make his lunch. 7:30 Dakota comes down and I tell him we can go to camp whenever he wants, no hurry go watch some TV. 5 minutes later I hear a cry in frustration and a "Dad, I just can't tie the back lace on his shoe." I go and tie his shoe and double check the green lace in the Tony Hawks, tight, and now I go back and try to read my inbox. He slams breakfast which either he or I make. 7:38 OK Dad, I'll meet you on the corner and he opens the garage door jumps on his bike and heads for the corner. I catch up two minutes later on my cruiser wearing his backpack and we head two blocks to camp. 7:45 We are in camp and I either try and haggle his way into camp attendance or give him is pack and leave for my AM " Set Free" bike ride, the haggling comes from yesterdays post where he has to attend all 5 days of camp, you just can't pick and chose because there is a waiting list. Now he is in camp till 4:30 on field trips, swimming or playing at the park when he is not crafting. 4:30 We peddle up and get him. 4:35 Dad, can we go to the skate-park? I tell him we drive down to the skate-park once a week and you chose Monday and that was your choice. And he pouts... 4:45 Dad can I ride my bike around the block? Yes I say as he rides around it 10 times, next; Dad can I ride my scooter around the block? Yes I say as he rides around it 10 more times, next he asks Dad, can I ride my skateboard around the block? Yes I say as he now has gone around the block at least 30 times, 5:30 He has 5 friends who are friends who live within a block of our house, and now he asks, Dad, can I go to so and so's house? Yes I say and if they are not home come back home and if you stay, be home by 6 because dinner is served. OK he says and does when there is no answer, then this repeats till someone answers the door. 6:00 We have dinner but he says I'm not hungry and we battle till he eats his food while being mad. At this point he either heads upstairs for the Wii's Super Mario Galaxy or wants to be outside playing with Trevor. Trevor wins out 90% of the time unless they are not home, then he is resigned to winning stars on the Wii. If he's outside I tell him he can be out till the streetlights come on then you have to come in. 7:40 and the streetlights come on. Just 5 more minutes Dad? My usual answer is no, you've been playing all day and the streetlights are on; you agreed to come in when they did. 7:45 He comes in and watches TV with Mom and usually chaces her off when we wants "his" TV. 8:30 "Bedtime, you gotta be tired, I am." OK but I am not tired can I play Wii? NO! It's bedtime and he goes in for 15 to 30 minutes of cartoon channel before bed, and when the TV goes off your eyes go shut and please sleep He kicks the wall, bangs his head on the wall, anything to keep from falling victim to the ZZZ's. 9:00 I can't sleep because I'n NOT TIRED I said! Mom or myself go and lay down with him and he is out within minutes sawing logs heavily. 9:15 Mom is in bed, I am playing Bejeweled blitz, checking in on friends, looking at my web stats or reading till 11 in the peace and quiet because it all begins anew at 7:00 - 7:15 in the morning!

Busy but full written by Portland Dad, July 30, 2010
Having kids means you are busy most of the time but the day is full of memories that you wouldn't trade peace and quiet for.
