Dakota while lying in bed tonight: Dad, why do people die?
Me: People's bodies just wear out and get tired when they get old from living a great life.
Him: But Dad, I don't want you to die!
Me while trying to suck it up: Don't you worry about that, you and me, we got a lot of living left to do.

Through my Family Leadership Training Institute class, I am honored to bring my readers a couple Colorado based web sites featuring organizations sponsored by a facilitator and a classmate. I am not going to tell you which is which as that's unimportant. My Family Leadership class is comprised of talented and inspirational students led by equally talented and inspirational facilitators.
What is important is their messages.

Parents with a social network of emotionally supportive friends, family and neighbors often find that that it is easier to care for their children and themselves. Most parents need people they can call on once in a while when they need a sympathetic listener, advice or concrete support. Conversely, research has shown that parents who are isolated, with few social connections are at a higher risk for child abuse and neglect.

Three Little Words That Work!!
From an email I got recently...
(1)The three little words are: 'Hold On please...'
Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt.
Then when you eventually hear the phone company's 'beep-beep-beep' tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task.
These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting..

Doing a pre-scout hike scouting for our den meeting this coming Wed at Gateway Open Space.
I hiked the 1.8 mile loop counterclockwise finishing on the Chuck's Loop segment of trail and took some photos so parents know what to expect. See photos below...

On a sunny but breezy day in Castle Rock, (go figure) I found the 7 year old Tiger Cub Scouts of Pack 262, climbing the Castle Rock with their parents. On their wind aided uphill sprint to the Summit they crested the summit not even breathing hard and followed by their pack laden parents bringing up the rear while heading up the steep but scenic route around the Rock..
I started the hike with a brief but timely discussion on making the right choices when they got to the vertical walls at the top of their climb and I am happy to report that smart choices were indeed made. As we stopped on the winded leeward side of the rock we talked about leaving no trace and what it meant. It was then pointed out that someone did not make a good choice when they wrote the word Cindy in marker on the rock. I pointed out they were right in their thinking and did this person leave no trace? Hmmm...
We talked about possibly scraping the ink off but that would leave a mark as did when somebody decided to carve their name into the rock wall, but decided against it because that would leave marks. So we decided to let the weather erode the marks away as we unfurled our black trash bag to gather trash into as we headed back down.

AtHomeDads are getting leadership in the form of a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the Washington D.C. area.
Mike Stillwell, Peter Steinberg and Matt Vossler were a trio of AtHomeDads involved in a great local playgroup in the area before it was 'hip to be cool' sorry!.:-)
Anyway, they wondered why there wasn’t a National At-Home Dad Network so other at-home dads could find great representation, support or local playgroups. So they got together and incorporated the first and only national non-profit organization for AtHomeDads, Daddyshome, Inc. Daddyshome, Inc is now live and I will be posting an occasional article there in the Blog portion of the site. |

I had a very successful presentation this morning with over 150 attendees. A couple things occurred and luckily I had planned for problems that I saw. Having a presentation disaster plan needs to be included when presenting material so when "it hits the fan" you are ready, and it will hit the fan someday. Of the 3 heart stopping things that occurred this morning, I had a back up for second two in case they happened. The first one tried to bite me, but luckily an astute Dad noticed no green light and saved me.
